HP Inc. (NYSE: HPQ) reported record fiscal third-quarter revenue of $15.7 billion, but its struggling printing business remains a concern for investors after the company’s August 26, 2026 earnings report. HP’s Printing segment generated $3.9 billion in revenue, down 2% year over year and 4% on a constant-currency basis, while total printing hardware units fell 7% and supplies revenue declined 3%. Consumer printing revenue dropped 2%, commercial printing fell 1%, and the weakness in supplies is particularly important because ink and toner provide HP with recurring, high-margin revenue. Still, Print remains one of HP’s most profitable businesses, delivering an 18.1% operating margin in the quarter, far above the 4.6% margin in Personal Systems. HP’s printing results therefore highlight a key challenge for the company: while the PC business is benefiting from higher prices, the traditional printer market continues to contract, putting pressure on a historically lucrative revenue stream.
